The Network | Coordination
The role of the Agbar Foundation is to lead the MED-REUNET network. This means creation and consolidation of the MED-REUNET expert network and promotion and dissemination of related activities.

The Agbar Foundation co-ordinates research management projects within the Agbar Group, a Spanish company with a long tradition in both Spain and South America.

About the Agbar Foundation

The Centre for Water Studies, Research and Applications, the origin of Agbar Foundation, was set up in 1961 to contribute to the knowledge of research into and dissemination of issues connected with the integral water cycle. From its origins it performed a major task of bringing together the interests and needs of companies, which managed one or another of the processes in the integral water cycle and made a place for itself inside the business community.

In May 1998, Agbar, the Board of Sociedad General de Aguas de Barcelona, founder of the Centre for Water Studies & Research, approved a change in the latter's name and expansion of its objectives; it became called the Agbar Foundation Centre for Environmental Studies and Research and focused its activities on environmental protection and improving the quality of life for human beings.

Hence the Agbar Foundation became Agbar's Group tool for proposing and promoting actions in respect the environment. The Foundation maintains 5 main lines of action: Research and Development, Research Grants and Aid for Further Education, Dissemination of Technological Knowledge, Organisation of Technical or Scientific Events and Social and cultural activities. Some of Agbar Foundation objectives are the following:

To maintain its policy of own research and that agreed with other bodies - university centres, business organisations, administrations - in order to discover new models and processes that mean a substantial contribution to the improvement of our business activity with respect to the environment.
To promote the use of technologies and methods of acting that are environmentally friendly amongst our companies and the specialised public.
To sponsor, through institutional alliances and via competitions for external specialists, those projects that enter within the Foundation's objectives.
